--- Dear Sir Regarding your Story of the Week about the World Men's Teams semi-final match between Matthew and Gaultier.
I was the WSF Senior Assessor appointed to the event and I assessed the Central Referee on that match. The Referee was most reluctant to award the match against Gaultier when he collapsed with cramp, but according to the Rules he had no option.
Then in a great gesture of sportsmanship, Matthew insisted Gaultier be allowed to continue, so the referee agreed to that. If a Marker/Referee calls a ball "Down" but both players say it was good, then the Referee goes with the decision of both players and he did the same thing here. This was the noisiest, happiest, most partisan squash crowd I have ever experienced and the atmosphere was wonderful, but I would like to stress that the Referee was not influenced by the crowd, but by the wishes of both players. He did the correct thing for the players and for the sport, and I hope you will publish this response Thank you Regards Chris Sinclair WSF Referee/WSF Senior Assessor

She continued that when the players both agreed to overturn the referee's decision and continue play, the referee was again right to allow them to do so.
