Reception: October 28, 2:00-4:00pm

Mi Casa es tu Casa invites you back into our home to remember and celebrate those you have lost.  In addition to the 17 community altars in the gallery this year we are exhibiting internationally recognized Papel Picado (cut paper) artist, Catalina Delgado Trunk. Come and see this amazing collection of Mexican folk art on loan to us from the collection of Cheryl Marquez, of Tortilla Flats in Soquel.   We thank guest curator, Tracy Heller-LeCroy of Wild Rose Artists' Supplies and Custom Framing, for working so hard to present another spectacular celebration of Dia de Los Muertos.  Jose Ortiz and his group Hijos del Sol are giving free workshops in Papel Picado and paper flowers at our reception.  We'll have great food and music, and know you will be touched by the altars created this year.

 In Our Community:

Common Ground

Join us in congratulating Consuelo Alba and John Speyer in their accpetance into the Pacific Rim Film Festival.  The basis of this film is the 2009 Mi Casa es Tu Casa exhibit curated by Carmina Eliason.  Carmina invited a variety of community groups into the gallery to build altars to their loved ones. If you can't make it to the film festival, we will have the DVD's for sale at the at the Gallery.

Sugar Skull Workshop with Miguel Quintana
November 4, 2012
1:00 - 4:00 PM

Sugar Skull Workshop

PVAC is hosting a workshop given by Miguel Quintana, a fifth generation sugar skull artist from Puebla Mexico, on November 4th, from 1:00-4:00.  Betsy McNair of "My Mexico Tours" will discuss her favorite holiday, Dia de Los Muertos; talk about traditional altars of Mexico and introduce Mr. Quintana.  The cost will be $2.00 per sugar skull.  This is a tremendous opportunity to learn from a master.  The workshop will be held at Callahan Park (225 Sudden Street) just down the street from the Gallery.  No cooking experience is required.  This will be a great activity for all ages, though children must be supervised by an adult.

Monterey Bay Reception
Reception

We would like to thank Susanna Waddell and Susan Matulich for another stunning exhibit at PVAC!  This visual feast was inspired and sponsored by the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation. We thank all of the participating artists, whose work really spoke to the beauty of our surroundings, congratulate the artists of the nineteen pieces that sold, and the patrons who purchased them.  As with all of our exhibits, Monterey Bay: Land, Sea & Air was a collaboration of our volunteers, Gallery Committee, and staff.
