A Message from our Head of School
|
Here at TDSA, we proved that the lessons taught to us by the Maccabees were put to practice. Torah learning was filled with joy and simcha. While most of the other chagim are celebrated at home, we had the unique opportunity to celebrate Chanukah together in school. Each class marked the holiday of Chanukah in their own distinctive way. There were nursing home visits, interactive activities, special school-wide presentations, games and songs, an Ivrit play, and field trips to a rebbe's or morah's home. There were soufganyot, dreidel games, and chocolate gelt. There were special art projects and a menorah contest. At the end of each day, the elementary students gathered together to hear a special Chanukah story from one of the faculty members. What a treat! I know the students enjoyed not only the fun and games, but were also able to understand, on their level, the lesson learned about Chanukah. A very long time ago, there was a small band of Jews who wanted to learn Torah even though they were told that they couldn't, who, with G-d's help, defeated an army much larger and stronger than they, and whose victory enabled us to continue to study the Torah and learn in a day school such as Torah Day School of Atlanta. Yes, I'd say it was a great week. We at TDSA are living and learning Torah in a fun-filled environment.
Good Shabbos,
Rabbi Joshua Einzig

By Eli Warga
After Yosef told the brothers who he was, he sent them to go and get the other members of his family. He sent Ya'akov a sign so that he would recognize it was Yosef. The sign was wagons. The Medresh teaches us that the sign of the wagons was because the last thing that Ya'akov was learning with Yosef was about the eglos tzav, the covered wagons. These were the wagons that the Shevatim donated to Shevet Levi to allow them to carry the pieces of the Mishkan that were assigned to them.

The faculty and staff of TDSA would like to jointly express our tremendous gratitude to PTA President Mrs. Sara Honikman, our PTA class room parents, all of our parents and an anonymous donor for the generous and thoughtful Chanukah gifts given this week. PTA also purchased a new camera for Mrs. Leslee Morris, our Admissions Director, to enable her to better chronicle and present all that is interesting and exciting in the school. We treasure our partnership with you in nurturing and encouraging your children, and we truly appreciate these tangible expressions of support and appreciation.

Kindergarten boys and girls - Mrs. D. Friedman's Limudei Kodesh classes
Keetah K brought their "Chanukah Comes Alive" program, previously presented to parents and families to great acclaim, to the residents of the Carlton Home this week. They sang, danced and brought loads of treats to all their new friends. The residents enjoyed, laughed, cheered and loved every moment. Akiva Birnbaum's own bubby, Mrs. Stern, was thrilled to meet her grandson's classmates and to add her warm welcome to our children.
First and eighth grade boys - Rabbi Horowitz's Limudei Kodesh classes
The first grade and eighth grade boys' classes each went to their rebbe's home for separate "last day of Chanukah" parties where they sang Chanukah songs, and had fun celebrating. The boys kneaded dough, cut out cookies into shapes such as menorahs, dreidels etc., and added a selection of toppings. It was hard to wait for the cookies to finish baking, but when done, the boys made brochos and ate their creations along with Mrs. Horowitz's fresh, yummy latkes! The eighth grade boys also played a rousing game of dreidel, won by Issac Palmore! Yasher koach to Mrs. Wolf for helping with the first grade boys, and to Mrs. Horowitz for hosting. Earlier in the week, the two classes joined forces for games and competitions, with the older boys teaming with their younger counterparts. This was a great finish to a chag sameach!
Third grade boys and girls - Mrs. Bolnick's General Studies classes
The third graders have been working on biographies. Each student chose a famous person to read about and then had a choice of one of three different projects. Some students wrote reports and created a bottle doll representation of their famous person. Others chose to write information and make a construction paper quilt on which to write their information, while the remaining students designed posters about their person. Everybody created a fantastic report! The students then presented their reports to the class; these will be on display near our classroom shortly.
Fourth and Seventh grade boys - Rabbi Alterman's Limudei Kodesh classes
In honor of Chanukah, the seventh and fourth graders teamed up to perform Rabbi Shmuel Kunda's famous musical story "The Incredible Dreidel of Feitel von Zeidel". Accompanied by the delightful and humorous audio track, the boys presented the play with great expression and skill.

TDSA Thunder teams are ready for all challengers. The boys' varsity basketball team won its third game against Brandon Hall School 35-3, Great defense and good shooting, especially by Isaac Palmore, Binyomin Pearlman, Cody Kaplan, and Binyomin Glinsky led the Thunder to their second 30 point win, and every team member played with skill and enthusiasm. The team is now 4-0 after winning their game yesterday against The Cottage School.
|

The Lady Thunder dominated in last night's game against The Cottage School to bring home their first win of the season. Congratulations! The girls played a great game of defense and worked together as a team, with contributions from all players. The final score was 40-9. Our high scorer was Mayaan Schoen with 12 points, with great scoring support from Shira Kalnitz (10 points), Rina Levitt (6 points), Yael Lovett (6 points), Racheli Freundlich (4 points), and Shifra Levy (2 points). Join us for our next home game on Thursday vs. GHA at 4:45 p.m. Thank you to parents, faculty and staff for coming to the games and for supporting our teams.
