Holy Week Begins with
Palm/Passion Sunday

Our Sacred Journey has brought us to the gates of the Old City of Jerusalem.  This Sunday, March 20, 2016, at 9:30 a.m., we enter those gates with Jesus, all his followers, and an adoring crowd.  They are spreading their cloaks on the road in front of him and praising God for all the deeds of power that they have seen.  Let's look at those deeds of power, and at what comes next over this Holy Week, and explore what the Passion of Jesus teaches us about the meaning of Jesus.  Our text will be Luke 19:28-40.  Our Hand Chimes will play beautiful music arranged by Hallie Foster for us!

A Note From
Pastor Bev

Our Lenten Sacred Journey has hopefully been a time of healing, bringing us deeper understandings about ourselves and our paths.  Now we arrive at the gates of Jerusalem.  We arrive at the Holiest Week of the Christian year.
What do we know about Jesus, his teachings, his deeds, and the meaning of his life?  What do we know about the meaning of his death?

Let's spend time with these holy questions this week.  As a community of faith, we come together to ask important questions that have no easy answers. Asking the questions draws us into the Mystery that is God.

May the peace of Christ be with you,

                                 Bev

Take a Stand - Sign a Card for REST this Sunday, March 20

This Sunday, March 20, during coffee hour, we'll have a table up in the Fellowship Hall where you can review and then sign a card voicing your support for a permanent year-round home for Marin's REST program. Our St. Rita's REST mission partner, Leticia Fish, brought us 40 cards, so let's see if we can get them ALL signed!  You don't have to be a registered voter to sign!  The Marin Organizing Committee (MOC) is leading this initiative to create a permanent, year-round home for Marin's REST program.

MOC Proposal:
  • Single brick-and-mortar site
  • Year-round operation, 365 nights per year
  • Replicate existing guest capacity of 40 men and 20 women
  • Commercial kitchen and bathrooms
  • Low barrier, behavioral standards ("safe for self and others")
  • Ability of community groups to prepare and share meals with guests

Please consider participating in signing and taking a stand with REST, which provides an emergency shelter for adults to stay in a safe, stable environment. Together, we can prevent sleeping on the street or in vehicles and provide essential life-giving services.

Think, Dream, and Share ... new ideas !

Each of us has the opportunity to create new ideas for the future - "our" future - and, for the future of our Church, the future of our communities, our schools, our households and our workplaces.

We matter.

What we observe and think matters. I am convinced that you and I are a big part of the future - and we mustn't leave it to others. Ideas are powerful. They start revolutions, movements, and can be the catalysts to addressing longstanding log jams.

God has appointed us to be problem solvers and, as Nancy Elberg in our Friday Bible Study group says, we are the Lord's hands and feet wherever we go. In Ephesians it states, "For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." (Eph 2:10). And in the Old Testament we are told, "I have given you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you." (I Kings 3:12).

Creativity, inspiration and problem solving are personal initiatives. Jack Wellman, a Kansas Pastor said, "A talent that is buried is useless, but a skill that is utilized displays the glory of God."

The Apostle Paul tells Timothy "Do not neglect the gifts you have ... immerse yourself in them" (I Timothy 4:14-15) So, at this Easter season, one which focuses on resurrection, I'd like to encourage each of us to reflect on our God-given talents, our unique gifts, and in some cases resurrect them if we have buried them, and resurrect those that may have been lying dormant.

I love our Church, and so respect watching this incredible group of individuals join together and address so many initiatives that are God inspired. With the Easter season before us, let's rise once again to even more challenges (and changes) that are before us ... and remember ... we are equipped to address them.

No one has to be a bystander, and no one should be. If you have ideas you'd like to share with Pastor Bev, please do. If you have been a spectator and would like to be more involved, speak to someone you're comfortable with and become a part of an initiative that interests you.

The greatest joy comes from realizing we have imaginations, God-given ideas; we are problem solvers and have been appointed to do so. It's a cool practice at times, to think "what would Jesus have done about this if He was here?"

Well, He is here, through you and me. That's empowering. That's fantastic. And quite an amazing responsibility.
Let's always remember, to whom much is given, much is required. Onward.

From LA ... Paul

Spread the word; we will resume meeting Wednesdays at 11 a.m. when we have a few babies and parents signed up!

We are looking forward to hosting this New Baby & Parent Group, meant to create a gathering space for parents to discuss topics like: child development, safety & child proofing, feeding issues, helping your fussy and colicky baby, and how to get your baby to sleep!

We're looking for a one month commitment so that the group gets      connected and feels supportive.
