China Supplier Carbon Performance Initiative: Webinars Available April 24 and 29

EICC will launch the Supplier Carbon Performance initiative with BSR in response to supplier requests for energy and carbon management resources.  The initiative is intended to drive in-factory energy efficiency improvements through diagnostic assessments, coaching sessions, and onsite energy audits.  The activities will help identify factory investment opportunities and lead to development of action plans that can be shared.  They will be followed by a forum to discuss ongoing challenges and shared potential.

The pilot initiative will focus on China in the first year, and will accommodate 20-40 participating suppliers.  Two webinars are scheduled to describe the program and help companies indicate their interest.  The webinars are open only to EICC members and invited suppliers:

  • Click here to register for April 24, at 11 AM ET
  • Click here to register for April 29, at 9 PM ET

No commitment is required to participate in the diagnostic questionnaire. Interested suppliers will submit a diagnostic questionnaire by May 15. Contact Sasha Radovich for more information.

EICC Labor & Ethics Lead Auditor Training:

April 22-26

EICC training is not just for auditors! Anyone who wants to get more familiar with the EICC Code of Conduct and auditing process will benefit from the EICC Lead Auditor course.

The course provides participants with the competencies required to successfully perform EICC Labor & Ethics VAP audits. The highly interactive five-day workshop covers social systems auditing, investigative skills, management systems, validation and reporting, and the EICC Audit Process.

The course includes an on-line self-study module that covers the background and context of the EICC program, common labor issues, compliance and legal standards, and other issues.  Successful completion of this course fulfills the training requirement of IRCA (International Register of Certificated Auditors) for certifying labor and ethics auditors for EICC auditing program.  Click a city below to register:

Conflict-Free Minerals Supply Chain Workshop:

May 8-9

The Extractives Work Group will host the eleventh Conflict-Free Minerals Supply Chain Workshop at the InterContinental Grand Stanford in Hong Kong on May 8-9. The workshop will feature plenary session panels and breakout sessions on topics including updates on regulatory efforts, and on tools to support conflict-free sourcing, reporting, and company due diligence.  A draft agenda is available on the Workshop Materials Webpage.

To attend the event, please visit the registration website. Registration must be completed by April 30 and is on a first come, first served basis. EICC members may register for one reduced rate ($275) ticket, with any additional tickets at the full rate of $550.

Contact Jennifer Peyser with any questions.

New Environmental Reporting Tool:

The new EICC Environmental Reporting Tool will launch in EICC-ON in May 2013. It will replace the EICC Carbon & Water Reporting tool, and is expanded to cover waste.  Companies that report publicly on these topics to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) or the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) will still be asked to participate, but will receive a much shorter list of questions.  Look for webinars and more information as the tool goes live.

Benefits to customers:
  • Help identify and monitor your supply chain's most material environmental impacts.
  • Get the environmental impact data you want without implementing your own survey.
  • Have suppliers allocate carbon emissions to your company.
  • Run reports in the tool and download data to Excel for offline analysis.
Benefits to suppliers:
  • Reduce survey fatigue by sharing a single questionnaire with multiple customers.
  • Use the same indicators that you report for your CDP and/or your GRI reports.
  • If needed, get help calculating Scope 1 & Scope 2 emissions using raw energy data.
For more information, contact Liz Abbett or Katie Schindall.
EICC Task Forces on Transparency and UN Guiding Principles

Transparency Task Force

The EICC Transparency Task Force (TTF) was launched in September to promote broader transparency on social and environmental performance in the electronics sector.  The TTF seeks additional members to help with this critical work.  The team is developing a list of potential material issues and associated key performance indicators to include in a recommendation to members about public transparency.  It is also developing a framework for the recommendations that members will be asked to vote on this summer.  Member input is critical to the success of this initiative!

Task Force on UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights

Members can also join a new task force related to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). The task force will review the gap analysis that BSR produced to assess EICC tools and resources against the UNGPs, and will review related recommendations to strengthen the link between the UNGPs and EICC work.  Results from the analysis and stakeholder input will be incorporated into the strategic planning initiative that was started earlier this year.  The task force encourages all interested members to help review this important information!

Contact Wendy Dittmer to join either task force, or for more information.

Working Hours Data Collection Template

Join the EICC Pilot Program

The EICC Working Hours Data Collection Template is available to help EICC companies collect working hours data from their facilities.  Data collected during a pilot phase will be used to establish a baseline for discussion.

The template is part of the EICC strategy on working hours to "make a measurable impact" on this issue by 2014, as adopted by EICC members at the July 2013 membership meeting.  EICC members will be encouraged after the pilot phase to use the template with their suppliers, and to use the data it provides to establish collaborative approaches to reduce excessive overtime.

Interested companies may use the templates immediately, and are asked to collect data retroactive to Jan. 1, 2013.  Completed templates will be sent to EICC according to the membership compliance protocols that ensure confidentiality.  All data will be anonymized and used only in aggregate form.

EICC-ON Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) Update

The current 2012 SAQ campaign has been updated for 2013. The update corrects minor errors that were identified in the past year.  Please open a support ticket using the "Help and Support" link in EICC-ON if you encounter problems.

As a reminder, the Tools Management Work Group will launch a revision of the SAQ in early 2014.  As a result, a new campaign will not be launched in 2013.  The reporting period will still be listed as 2012, but the 2012 campaign can be updated at any time to reflect progress in 2013, and results will be illustrated in real time.  EICC companies and suppliers are encouraged to update their results, and to show progress throughout the year.

Contact eicc-onhelp@eicc.info if you have questions about the specific changes to the SAQ or about work in process.
