BUSINESS ADVOCACY GROUP
By Chair Pat Arling, Provincial Bank
NAME MAY CHANGE, BUT MISSION THE SAME
The Business Advocacy Group, formerly known as the Government Affairs Committee and/or Public Policy Committee, may have undergone a few name changes but the mission has been consistent over the years.
Our mission is "to develop and nurture a conduit of communication with our local government units and elected officials to better educate and update Lakeville Area Chamber membership on issues that could have an impact on their business. We will advocate for our members best interest and take position with board approved policy statements when necessary."
One of our objectives is to provide formal programs on topics we believe are relevant to our membership. In April, representatives of MNDOT were invited to speak about the I-35 road construction. Look for a legislative update luncheon in June where Representative Mary Liz Holberg will discuss this year's legislative session.
For those members that have an interest in local government or want to know more about The Business Advocacy Group please join us at our next meeting 4:00pm June 27 in the Chamber board room.

MOM Brands Expansion
The City Council voted on April 15 to approve a Conditional Use Permit for MOM Brands to develop site improvements adjacent to their two buildings in the Fairfield Business Campus. These improvements involve new parking lot construction, pedestrian connections between the buildings, additional landscaping and lighting, and the construction of four additional rain gardens to accommodate increased storm water run-off that will be generated on their site. MOM Brands is currently completing a $4.3 million renovation of their second building. All of the work for the building renovation and site improvements will be completed by the end of the summer at which time MOM Brands will be relocating 100 employees from their current corporate headquarters in Downtown Minneapolis to Lakeville. This will result in a total of 350 employees being located in Lakeville.
Poquet Auto Service Center
Located on the corner of Cedar Avenue and County Road 50, Poquet Auto recently opened a new service and maintenance center for the south metro, specializing in import vehicles. Plans also include car sales later this summer.
