FROM THE EXEC'S DESK
By Todd Bornhauser, Lakeville Chamber of Commerce's Executive Director
SUMMARY OF SUCCESSThe year is coming to a close and its a fabulous time to celebrate the successes of your businesses and your chamber. It is my pleasure to give credit to all the chamber volunteers, committee members, board members, active members and staff that have contributed this year to the successes of your Lakeville Area Chamber! We have received fantastic feedback from our members on our new interactive website. Enhanced listing opportunities are still available to highlight your business. These listings allow businesses to be viewed at the top of listings and you can add video, job postings, hot deals, key words, logos and additional photos for more visibility. I encourage you to contact Linda Rynda to help you maneuver through this easy process. Secondly, in spite of the economy during 2012 we have increased attendance to essential fundraising events like the Landscape & Home Expo, Golf Tournament and Fall Gala. Thank you to our volunteers who do a tremendous job at these events creating an experience for our members and raising funds so the chamber can continue to bring its members great services. Our most recent success includes a new Lakeville Chamber App for smart phones! This important media device carried around in your pocket or purse now constitutes 1 of every 7 minutes of media consumption! No need to do a thing as all the data is carried over from our website. The new app can be downloaded instantly on your phone at http://www.mychamberapp.com/download and is now promoting your businesses to consumers! We have partnered with ChamberMaster to make your business data available 24/7 on MyChamberApp, the only nationwide directory of chamber members. Check it out! You can quickly find businesses, chamber events, and even post HOT DEALS if you have an enhanced listing on our website! I'd like to personally invite you to the Lakeville Chamber's Annual Dinner and Holiday Party and join with us as we celebrate the successes of 2012 and welcome in our 2013 President Sheila Longie and board, and recognize the accomplishments of outgoing 2012 President Karen Wentworth and board. The 2012 Business Person of the Year will be honored as well! This special event is scheduled for Monday, January 28 at Crystal Lake Golf Club beginning at 6:00 with a social hour and 7:00-9:00 dinner and program. Happy Holidays!

BUSINESS & EDUCATION COMMITTEE
By Chair Bob Finke, Family Health Medical Clinic

This month the Business Education Committee hosted two teacher appreciation breakfasts. On December 5th we visited Lakeville North High School and on the 7th we were at Cherryview Elementary. The committee hosts breakfasts at each of the elementary schools every year. The middle and high schools are visited on alternating years. It has been enjoyable to meet the teachers and tell them about the involvement of the Chamber in educating our young people.
The next teacher appreciation breakfasts will be on January 11th at Lake Marion Elementary and on January 17th at the Area Learning Center. On January 25th we will conduct our regular monthly meeting at Orchard Lake Elementary starting at 7:30. The teacher appreciation breakfast will be at Orchard Lake that same day starting at 8:30. Please join us to meet and recognize our teachers!
On January 14th, under the direction of committee member Steve Lorenz, the Business Education Committee will present the annual College Financial Planning program. This has been a very popular event for high school students and their parents. There will be presenters from area private and public college financial aid departments as well as a college advisor. Please stop by at Lakeville South High School at 6:30 PM for this event.
This year the committee has been looking for ways to become more involved with out elementary students. We have begun to link up members with the schools for special projects and continue to look for ways to establish ongoing relationships with the elementary teachers and schools. Please offer any suggestions to us regarding your interests in this area. You will be informed when we are initiating these programs and asked to offer assistance where you can.
Happy Holidays to everyone from the Business Education Committee!!
