Dice & Fill Composites from APC

Consider using composite piezo materials for high frequency applications.

Dice and Fill Composite materials provide an alternative to PZT materials for piezo applications that require higher sensitivity and greater flexibility.  APC's 1-3 Dice & Fill Composites are available in Navy I, Navy II, and Navy VI materials. The properties of piezoelectric ceramic / polymer composites are particularly effective in underwater applications such as hydrophones. Other advantages of composite materials include:

  • Lower acoustic impedance between 8 MRayl and 26 MRayl
  • Higher coupling coefficient
  • Higher bandwidth and lower Qm
  • Greater flexibility to shape

APC's experts are happy to discuss the possibility of using dice and fill composities in your application. Please contact us today.

Piezoelectric Ceramics: Principles and Applications Textbook

APC's textbook provides an easy to understand introduction to piezoelectric ceramics.

APC's textbook gives an overview of the general principles of piezoelectricity and the behavior of piezoelectric ceramic elements. The book also covers the fundamental mathematics of piezoelectricity, traditional and experimental applications of piezoelectric materials, and the related physical principles for each application used.

For those who need a basic foundation for understanding how piezoelectric ceramics work this is a book worth reading.

  Piezoelectric Ceramics: Principles and Applications

APC Offers Both Standard and Custom Piezo Disc Benders
Piezo Unimorphs and Bimorphs from American Piezo.

Did you know that there are two classifications of disc benders? Disc benders are categorized as either a bimorph or unimorph based on the number of PZT plates used. One PZT plate bonded to one metal (brass) disc is considered to be a unimorph. Two PZT plates bonded to one metal disc are considered to be a bimorph. Piezo unimorphs are usually less expensive and used in a variety of consumer applications; including many piezo buzzers.

Disc Benders manufactured by APC are made with quality in mind while keeping the price competitive. Our disc benders offer:

  • Clear sound
  • High sound pressure
  • Low power consumption
  • Small and lightweight

APC has available for fast delivery many standard stock unimorphs and bimorphs. But if you're in the market for something more specific, please contact any APC Representative to discuss your disc bender needs.
