NYS State Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer Comes to FSSY

NYS State Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer came to FSSY on April 10th to personally thank the GrandPower Advocates for their successful efforts to increase funding by 100% in the NYS FY2014-15 budget for kinship support programs.  These programs provide supportive services to grandparents and relative caregivers who are raising children when parents are unwilling or unable to care for their children.  She also commended the GrandPower Advocates for informing state legislators of the need for housing for grandfamilies, and subsequently being responsible for the allocation of $200,000 in the FY2014-15 budget for a statewide study of housing and other needs that kinship families have.  FSSY has the only state-funded kinship support program in Westchester County.  Assemblywoman Mayer emphasized that the FSSY GrandPower are a "force in Albany."
