REV. BRENDA SPEAKING SUNDAY; SPIRIT CHOIR AND YOUTH PERFORMING

Please join us this Sunday at 10 a.m. to hear Rev. brenda wrap up our series on "Thriving Unity." Having discussed the individual and team aspects, we'll bring it all together to explore the community as a whole. What is our sacred intention for our spiritual commUnity in the near future? Come this Sunday and bring along your Divine Idea!  The Unity Spirit choir will sing a rousing rendition of "Sweeter As The Days Go By" and the children's "Sprite" choir will join them  for "Sing."  The
Spirit Choir will also lead a sing-along in the sanctuary at 9:45.

WELL WRITTEN AUTHOR JANET CONNER IS COMING TO UCR

Excitement is in the fall air as we get ready to welcome national speaker, Janet Connor to UCR! Did you know your soul wants 5 things?! Janet will be presenting an experiential workshop on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. help us discover 2 of those things.
In the morning she will help us to find and connect with our soul's Voice through story, meditation, and writing. Her book "Writing Down Your Soul" and it's companion journal will be used. In the afternoon, we will access the wisdom of Buddha and Jesus and discover ways to nourish and create a beautiful, abundant life. Her book, "Lotus and Lily" and it's companion journal will be featured. Books are here and will be available in the foyer Sunday. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to connect with your Soul! The cost of these workshops is $25 in advance, $30 at the door, plus $10 for lunch. There is a sign-up sheet in the foyer. Janet will also be our guest speaker on Sunday, October 27, with a talk titled "The Great Paradox of Prosperity." She will then present a workshop from noon to 2 p.m. that day called 'Unravel the Great Paradox', from noon to 2 p.m. with a suggested love offering of $20.

MERRY NOT SCARY!

Join us Sunday, Oct 27, for a Halloween / autumn celebration in the CommUnity Room. During the service, the kids will make a dessert to share with the congregation. Then after the service, we'll have several "stations" for games, face painting, crafts, music, and more. Kids can wear a costume if they want to. Older kids and adults are welcome and encouraged to join the fun.

PROJECT REBUILD ~ POSSIBILITIES EXPLORATION

On October 6, we held an open meeting for all congregants to share their divine ideas about the possibilities in rebuilding our Sacred Grounds & Books, Lending Library and storage space area. Our own Rich Moritz graciously collected what was shared that day and transformed those ideas into a visual image. Members of the Project Rebuild team met on October 15 to review the drawings and graphics. Based on that discussion, further refinement of re-design drawings will take place. Next, the Board of Trustees and our Sacred Grounds & Books ministry chair will meet to discuss the final design.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT FROM JIM HEALY, PROSPERITY CHAIR

I don't know about you but I am a fan of IPR (Iowa Public Radio).  It provides such a refreshing approach to understanding the issues of our day, learning new things that you may not have been exposed to in any other media, listening to music away from the standard radio fare, and sometimes it is just fun. IPR exists only because it is supported by those who find value in one or more of the above aspects of its programming.

UnityCR is very much like IPR in that it offers refreshing ideas to help us navigate our spiritual journey, causes us to think about life and our role in co-creating our experiences, teaches skills and principles to improve our lives, introduces us to a variety of music that we might not otherwise experience, and sometimes it is just fun. UnityCR also exists only because it is supported by those who find value in one or more of the above aspects of its programming.

If you have been following the budget information provided in our monthly bulletins, you are aware that our year-to-date income is at about 87% of what is needed to sustain our Center and its mission.  Please consider what you might do to help improve this situation during the closing months of 2013.  All contributions are welcome.  Find an amount that represents your passion for UnityCR and take action.  As always, you are encouraged to talk to any board member if you have questions or suggestions.

BELONG TO LIVE LONG
The simple act of regularly attending a religious service is a common thread among cultures with the longest life spans. It doesn't matter which faith you are; attending church, even just once a month, seems to have a positive effect on one's overall health and happiness. It has been reported by a study in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior  that those who attended regular religious services at least once per month had a longer life expectancy than those who did not . It seems that people who nourish their spiritual side lower their risk of heart disease, depression, and stress, while increasing their immunity.
