LOVING THOSE WHO DON'T LOVE YOU BACK
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. (Mark 12:30,31)
As we consider the way mankind treats each other in today's society it evident that many people are not living out the commandment enumerated above. For instance, there seems to be no love between Republicans and Democrats; or between Republicans and Republicans; and Democrats and Democrats. I am a firm believer that we should love one another even if they do not love us back. This will be difficult, but it is Biblical and Christians are mandated to do so.
In Mark 15:13 the Jews cried out to crucify Jesus. And yet, Jesus allowed himself to be crucified on Calvary for the same individuals that called for His crucifixion. That was "Love." Some might say that our love for others should only be as we love ourselves, and we really don't love ourselves. However God created us in His image and as we are commanded to love Him, it is natural that love for ourselves (as His creation) should follow.
The Bible tells us that the gifts given to us by God will eventually profit us nothing in the end(1 Corinthians 13:2). Even as faith, hope, and love all abide, the greatest of these is love. I hope that you will join with me in showing love to all whom we come in contact with. Yes, that even includes those who don't love you back. As we strive to become like Christ, the least that we can do is love our neighbors.
