EAT THE BOOK
And I went unto the angel, and said unto him. Give me the little book. and he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. and I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up.... (Revelation 10:9,10a)When we were young our parents often made us eat foods that did not taste very good to us. They always told us that those foods were good for us. For instance I wanted to be strong like "Popeye the sailor man" so I would take forever to get my spinach down. As a result, it became a habit and now I don't mind Spinach so much.
The point is, physical food that is nourishing makes you stronger. Without it we are subject to become weaker. In the same way, Spiritual food is also necessary to make us stronger in our Spiritual life.
In the passage above, the little book represents the "Word of God" (the Bible). To John the Word of God was indeed sweet to believers; but bitter to unbelievers when it brings divine judgment on them.
Of course "eating the book" is symbolic, not literal. It means to digest the contents of the book. We should study the book as a daily part of our Spiritual walk. When we study the Bible, we are eating and digesting it. It will make us Spiritually healthy. I hope that all of us continue to eat well, both physically and Spiritually.
