As we celebrate Black History Month we must realize that even though race relations have come a long way, we still have a way to go.  Toward that in, let us have a spirit of "helps" for those who find themselves in need.  When we help one another, our differences seem to be less consequential.

Also, remember to keep our sick and shut-in members in prayer.

                      STAND IN THE GAP

For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; (Esther 4:14a)

Few would disagree that our world today is full of turmoil.  Many people are seriously in need of help.  Perhaps they need financial help.  Maybe they need a friend to talk to.  Or maybe they just need you to pray for them.   As Christians, we should always be available to "stand in the gap" for others.

Esther, the wife of King Xerxes, was a Jew.  When called upon, she was willing to lay her life down to save her people from perishing based on a Persian decree to wipe them out.  She "stood in the gap"  on behalf of her people and thus saved many people from being killed.

The Bible contains many examples of people who "stand in the gap" for others.  Abraham stood in the gap between the Lord and Sodom and plead with the Lord to spare  the city.  Moses' wife, Zipporah, took action when God sought to kill Moses because he did not circumcise his son.

Esther took the attitude that she was ready to die to stand for what was right and to save her people.  Her love for others outweighed her concern for herself.  We must have that same attitude.  We must be willing to stand up for what we believe is right.  We must be steadfast in our desire to help others.  We must believe that our "standing in the gap for others" will benefit the Kingdom of God.

I hope that you will make an effort to "stand in the gap" for another person this month.
