As we enter the month of February we should be reminded of "Black History Month" celebrations as well as "Valentine's Day."  Many people are disturbed by the fact that no Black actors are being considered for Oscar Awards this year.  Perhaps we need to encourage ourselves by remembering those actors in our community who have excelled.  And of course, let us emphasize "love" in all of our relationships.

Also, remember to keep our sick and shut-in members in prayer.

              COUNT IT ALL JOY!

My Brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations...
James 1:2)

A couple of weeks ago I was close to being late for an appointment but I assumed that if I took a certain travel route I would be okay.  However, when I tried to start the car, it would not make a sound.  I did not have time to get a charge on the battery so I decided to take the other car.  The problem there however was that my gas tank was on empty.  After getting gas, I got on the freeway and found myself in a traffic jam.  I decided to call the people that I had the appointment with but realized that I had left my cell phone at home.... and so on, and so on, and so on.  I eventually got to the location but had a long wait to see them because I was late.

When things begin to go wrong in your life do you ever ask "why me?"  Does it seem like bad things are always happening to you, while others are prospering?  Are you familiar with the statement "when it rains,it pours?"  If you answered yes to any of these questions, you can relate to the reason James decided to include this passage in his Epistle.

This letter was written during a time when the church was under great persecution.  James does not say "if" you face trials, but "when" you face trials.  Of course James also is not saying that we should pretend to be happy when trouble comes.  But we should have a positive outlook at those times because we know that our Lord is still in charge and can work out any situation for our good.

Whenever you are faced with a trial, just remember that in the end, you will win.  So just count it all joy now, and avoid a lot of stress.
