Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended; but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13,14)
Years ago, one of our dear Mothers of the church often used the expression, "keep pushing," when discussing the trials of life. Although "Mama Hooey" is now in Heaven with the Lord, I often think of her in times of difficulty. She lived to be almost 100 years old (I don't remember the exact number). Her advice then is still good today however. No matter what we may be facing, we should have a positive attitude that will carry us through.
In the passage above, the Apostle Paul gives a testimony that alludes to his past, while focusing on his future. Paul had many accomplishments during his past life, but he realized that he should not rest on the laurels of the past. We can never be totally satisfied with where we are in life. KEEP PUSHING to be better.
Let us all strive to win the prize of the high calling of Jesus Christ in 2016. We haven't finished the race yet. Even though the going may get a little rough, remember what Mama Hooey used to say, "KEEP PUSHING."
