GOD'S WORD IS EVERLASTING
Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah after the king had burned the scroll and the words which Baruch had written at the dictation of Jeremiah, saying, Take again another scroll and write on it all the former words that were on the first scroll which Jehoiakim the king of Judah burned. (Jeremiah 36:27, 28)
Having been raised in a Christian family I have had a healthy respect for the Bible as long as I can remember. Although tattered and worn, I still have one of my earliest Bibles given to me when I was eight (8) years old. Although I have been around people who have believed that the Bible is just a book and that there is no way it can be a true representation of God's Word, I truly believe in the infallibility of the Bible in all respects. I have heard people malign the Bible, and on one occasion I saw on television a group of individuals set the Bible on fire. I know that people sometimes misinterpret the Bible for their own purposes. Through it all, the Bible has endured as the everlasting Word of God. It says what it means and it means what it says.
In the passage above, The Lord instructed Jeremiah to record all of his prophetic messages on a scroll. Jeremiah dictated his messages to Baruch. When king Jehoiakim heard the scroll read, he cut it up and burned it. Of course that could have been a final blow to the Word if it were not that God's Word is everlasting. Verse 32 says that Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch and he wrote all the words of the book which had been burned in the fire.
Thus, the Word of God would live on until this day, and will continue as an everlasting message to us from our Lord and Savior.
