THE VALUE OF PRAISE!
And David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, and David was wearing a linen ephod. (2nd Samuel 6:14)
There is no doubt that many people have a difficult time believing that overt praise in church is acceptable. Even David's wife, Michal, despised David in her heart when she looked out the window and saw him dancing before the Lord. However, the Bible contains hundreds of verses on praise. Accordingly, it is worth while for us to take a look at the value of praising God.
First of all, praise is an expression of commendation. With overt words and actions we praise God because He is worthy of commendation. After all, just consider all that the Lord has done for us. David had no problem praising God when he reflected on all that the Lord had been to him. After all, David was a man after God's own heart.
Secondly, one might ask, why should we praise? Surely we must admit that praise acknowledges God's presence. We thank God because He will never leave us nor forsake us. Obviously, praise to God pleases God.
Thirdly, when should we praise? We should praise God continually. Of course our praise should be sincere. I am sure that God would not appreciate an insincere praise.
Considering the above reasons, if we still believe as Michal did, that is, that praise is unnecessary (some would say, it doesn't take all of that), then we should be careful not to hinder others from praising God. After all, we can't judge the praise of others, because we don't know their stories. And when God has done something supernatural for you, you just need to express the value of praise in your actions. So the next time you see someone praising God, don't talk about them, just join in with them!
