GOD IS ALWAYS ON TIME
"Jesus said to her, Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My Hour has not yet come. His mother said to the servants, whatever He says to you, do it." (John 2:4,5)
I must admit that I get impatient sometimes and want God to microwave a response to my prayers. But as I get older, I have begun to realize that God knows what He is doing when He causes us to wait. Accordingly, as my grandmother would say, "He may not come when you want Him, but He is always on time!" This statement comforts us because we know that when He does respond, it will be beneficial to us.
I have learned to focus more on the fact that God incorporates time in the larger realm of "Eternity." And yes, eternity is really a long time. In the passage above, it is not always easy to determine what Jesus meant when He said, "My hour has not yet come." It is not my purpose to exegete it at this time. What I do think is important however is that God is very concerned with timing. During the wedding in Cana when Mary pointed out to Jesus that there was no more wine, Jesus told her His hour had not come. Of course Mary knew who He was and what He could do. Apparently she wanted Jesus to perform a miracle to ensure that more wine was available. Or perhaps she wanted others to know who He really was. However Jesus admonished her in a very direct way.
Many or us have been asking God for specific action in our lives for a long time. Whether it is concerning an illness, or financial problems, etc., we want God to help us right now. However, God is sovereign and has a right to decide when and how He will respond. Accordingly, let us continue to ask Him, as Mary did, to do what we know He can do. But let us learn to be patient and accept the fact that He will do things in His own time. After all, God is always on time!
