But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. John 14:26.
I remember my father advising me as a child on many of the situations that I would experience in life. He provided for me in more ways than one. When he died in 1983, I knew that I would miss having him when I had a problem that I could not solve. I have been fortunate however to have other male mentors who have been available to me over the years whenever I needed some advice.
I can imagine the Disciples of Jesus depending on Jesus the same way I did on my father. He had led them for 3 years and they still needed His guidance. As He prepared to leave them, He let them know that He would send the "Comforter" to help them in His stead. All of us now have the same Helper. Who is this Helper?" The Holy Ghost!
Some have interpreted "Comforter" to mean "Teacher." Some see it to mean "Helper." Some believe it to be "Advocate." Others interpret it to mean "Counselor." In essence the Holy Ghost, derived from the Greek word "Paraclete" is our Comforter for whatever we may need. He explains Scripture: He unravels Biblical mysteries; He helps us understand the Gospel, and He sheds light on many other truths that the Lord wants us to know. Unfortunately, we don't use His Wisdom like we should. If we did, our lives would be less chaotic, and much more fruitful.
I don't have my Dad to depend on for guidance any more. And Jesus Christ, my Savior, sits at the right hand of God the Father. But I do have the Holy Spirit, my Comforter. And for that I am truly grateful.
