UNITY IN CHRIST
Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe's household, that there are contentions among you. (1 Corinthians 1:10, 11)
The Associated Press had an article this week entitled "HAVE LITTLE ROCK'S SCHOOLS ATTAINED EQUALITY?" The article is thorough and does a good job from a historical perspective. It does point out that there has been progress made in achieving equality in Arkansas schools. However it includes the following quote: "And racial divisions linger within the integrated Central High School, where riots erupted in 1957 as Gov. Orval Faubus tried to prevent black students from entering."
Divisions among people is nothing new. I often ask the question that was widely quoted from Rodney King, "can't we all get along?" Even in the early church, there were divisions that the Apostle Paul had to address among believers. Besides some of the flagrant violations of church doctrine, Paul was also concerned that there was very little unity in the church. He made it clear, their unity was tied into their love for Jesus Christ.
We still have many divisions among people in every area of society today. Some of these divisions are extremely serious and must be addressed. Even in the church today, there are still some divisions. However, like Paul, I suggest that our divisions can be minimized when we put our trust in Jesus Christ and allow Him to be the Lord of our lives.
Can we all get along? Yes we can, because there is "Unity In Christ."
