THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE!
You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's. (Exodus 20:17)
There is an innate desire to see things that others have and want those things for ourselves. Advertisements on television make us think that we have to have that new car, or that new house, or look like that young movie star. The temptation of spending above our means is always present. Adam and Eve started off when they wanted more than God had set aside for them. Even at a young age, you see our 2 year old children competing for toys in a nursery environment. How often have you heard them cry out "MINE" when other children are around.
The grass may "look" greener on the other side of the fence, but it does not mean that it is. And all that glitters is not gold. Coveting beyond our means leads to insurmountable debt, crime, ruined marriages, and even sickness. But when we learn how to be thankful for what we have, we can have peace that passes all understanding.
God knows "what" we need, and "who" we need in our lives, and He will supply those things and those persons for us. Perhaps you want a bigger house. In the meantime, thank God for a roof over your head. Some people brag because they have alligator shoes. But remember, God created the alligator. Some brag about having diamond jewelry. But remember, God put the minerals in the earth. Some people have a yacht. But if God had not the created the ocean, what would they do with the yacht.
I am thankful for what I have. If God wants me to have more, He is well able to give it to me.
Hallelujah!
