THANK MOM FOR NOT EATING YOU!
So we boiled my son, and ate him. And I said to her on the next day, 'Give your son, that we may eat him'; but she has hidden her son."
(2 Kings 6:29)
As we approach Mother's Day, please forgive me for a little humor. Most of you have heard a mother say at one time or another: "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out." Generally, statements like this were made when your mother was angry with you because you had done something wrong. Of course, you did not really take her serious. After all, a loving mother would never do anything to harm her children.
The background for the passage above depicts a famine in the land and people became so desperate that some of them resorted to cannibalism. Two mothers decided that they would sacrifice their children in order to have something to eat. One mother promises to give her son the next day if the other mother gives her son first. The next day after they had eaten the first child, the other mother hid her child so that he would not be killed.
If your mother is living this Mother's Day, let us thank her for not eating us. I am sure that there were times when we got on her last nerve. But Godly mothers are to be commended for putting up with us during the various stages of our childhood.
If your mother has gone to glory, just take time to remember her and all the love that she gave you when she was alive. At the very least you should be glad that she did not eat you, or take you out of this world.
Happy Mother's Day!
