ARE YOU A CAN DO, OR CAN'T DO PERSON?
Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it." But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we." (Numbers 13:30, 31)
Some people are very pessimistic about the future and some people are very optimistic. For instance, when your gas gage on the dashboard of your car shows the indicator exactly in the middle, do you consider the car to be half-full (an optimist), or half-empty (a pessimist)? It has been said that the difference between people is not the facts that they face, but the interpretation that they give to those facts. Different people can look at the same situation and see different things.
Some people only see the problems. They have low self-esteem and allow their problems to become "giants" that overcome their confidence.
But some people see the possibilities. They have a sense of mission. They set goals and go after them. They believe that their ability is empowered by God.
In the passage above, Moses sent 12 spies into Canaan to view the land that God was giving them. After viewing the people in the land, only 2 men believed that they could take possession of the land. Caleb said, yes we can. The other 10 were frightened because of the obstacles that they would face. They came back and said, "no we can't" even though God had given it to them.
Do you believe that 2013 will be a good year for you and your family? Well it depends on how you view your circumstances. Are you a "can do," or a "can't do" person? Remember, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. So let's be optimistic this year. Let's be "can do" people. Let's see the gas gage as being half-full. Let's go for the blessings that God has for us!
