We thought you might like to have an update on the impact of your donations to our community.  We have had some really compelling requests for assistance since January, with referrals come from Dept. of Children and Families, SWAG Family Resource Center, Alachua County Victim Services and Catholic Charities to name a few.
 
We have had 18 applications for assistance and approved 14, distributing $9,242 to the community (including Zakat). 29 children have been impacted by your generosity.
 
One woman after surviving an abusive relationship was helped by Peaceful Paths to find a secure apartment for herself and two young children. After initial fees were paid she was having trouble meeting expense and worked with her landlord to arrange payments, RH stepped in to assist her over the hump.
 
Another Muslim mom had full responsibility for 3 children, was searching for work and living in extended stay. The community came together to help her manage until she found employment (now working at Shands). Members of the community also made it possible for her to get transportation and still others are currently working to help her meet all the initial costs relative to moving in to a new apartment. For those of us fortunate enough to have their home, sometimes we tend to forget the cost of moving into a new place.  If the first month's rent (575), last (575), security deposit (575) is required this could mean a cost of up to $1725 even for low rent places. This type of cost is monumental for someone just starting over.
 
One elderly couple who accepted the care of 3 children when their mother was sent to jail fell behind on their own responsibilities because of the added expense before they received child support. RH was again able to assist this family so they could continue to care for the children. Although the focus of Radiant Hands is working women, when children are in peril we try to step in to help when possible.
 
As of this date, we have not given out any scholarships, so if you know someone in a certified program who needs assistance with course/exam fees please have them check out the website for the application requirements and form.
