Dear Members & Friends,

A great lineup set for Economic Summit on Feb. 6

I'm delighted to inform you that Dr. Yossi Sheffi, director of the MIT Transportation and Logistics Center in Boston, will be the keynote speaker at our economic development half-day summit entitled "Building a Strong Economy: A Vision for 2020," on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Oakland Convention Center.

Dr. Sheffi, the author of the engaging and entertaining book "Logistics Clusters, Delivering Value and Driving Growth," will share his three decades of research in this area as well as his experiences in co-founding five successful supply chain companies since 1987.

According to Fred Smith, chairman and chief executive officer of FedEx Corporation, "Yossi Sheffi succinctly summarizes the major current developments in worldwide logistics in this well-written book."

D. Scott Davis, CEO of UPS, adds "As much as anyone I know, Yossi Sheffi has advanced the cause of logistics as an academic discipline. I often call on him for his unique insight on how logistics intersects the worlds of technology, public policy, global trade, and other macro issues."

A solid line-up of speakers has been confirmed for each of three concurrent sessions, with Dr. Sheffi sitting in on "Transportation and Logistics."

Reserve your seat today at www.oaklandchamber.com or contact Eleanor Hollander at (510) 874-4800, ext. 320 or at ehollander@oaklandchamber.com.

CHAMBER NOW SELLING FEDERAL & STATE EMPLOYMENT POSTERS

The Oakland Metropolitan Chamber is now selling 2013 California and Federal Employment Posters. If you get one thing to protect your company in 2013 from liability and government fines, it should be the labor law poster (regular or laminated), which is required for all businesses. Whether you have one employee or 1,000 employees, you're required to post 16 state and federal notices. You can avoid fines in the thousands of dollars by purchasing a poster from the Chamber.

For more information or to order your 2013 posters, contact Hank Masler at (510) 874-4808 or at hmasler@oaklandchamber.com
