UniversityNow

 

UniversityNow, a social venture committed to transforming higher education, has announced the debut of the College Works Scholarship Program in Northern California. Through this groundbreaking program, working adults in partner cities of Oakland and Sacramento, as well as San Francisco, who qualify for tuition benefits, now have the opportunity to earn an undergraduate degree from one of UniversityNow's accredited universities at no cost. SAVE THE DATE

 

"Building a Strong Economy: A Vision for 2020," the Chamber's annual economic development summit, will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Oakland Convention Center. Hear a keynote address on current trends in city building and a vision for moving Oakland and its neighbors forward by 2020. Then attend one of three breakout sessions on Oakland's strong economic sectors - trade, transportation and logistics; arts and entertainment; or health care. The entire group will also be provided an additional option to convene early in the morning for an "Insider Update + Forecast" real estate market briefing to get up to speed on current developments in the East Bay marketplace. BREAKFAST AT THE CHAMBER

Join us for our final event of the year, a Breakfast at the Chamber on Thursday, Dec. 20 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. You'll hear an update of Chamber activities for 2013 and will have a chance to do some outstanding networking, so bring lots of business cards. 'Nutcracker' begins Dec. 22 - The Oakland Ballet Company will present its annual performances of "The Nutcracker" at the Paramount Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 22 (2 p.m.), Sunday, Dec. 23 (2 p.m.) and Monday, Dec. 24 (11 a.m.). The Nutcracker, which will feature Michael Morgan conducting members of the Oakland East Bay Symphony, will once again feature the work of ballet artistic director Graham Lustig. ZooLights - During the evenings of Nov. 30 through Dec. 31 (not including Dec. 24 and 25), the Oakland Zoo morphs into a magical wonderland filled with lights, sights, and sounds of the holiday season. Thousands of LED lights brighten Oakland's night sky for the presentation of ZooLights, an annual Oakland holiday tradition. Info: www.oaklandzoo.org
