Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

Staging for the Labor Day Parade will be in the US Bank parking lot off 35th Street and 18th Avenue at 9 am Monday.  Please meet there.  We need walkers to throw out peanuts.  It is always a great time to participate in this event.

The 5th Annual Kiwanis-Pepsi Bags Tournament is around the corner, September 21st at Schwiebert Park.  Volunteers are needed in many areas.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and is critical to our ability to fund grants for the coming year.  We need all hands on board.  Please contact Kim Brozovich, our volunteer coordinator this year, if you can assist in any way.  Her email is kbrozovich@ihmvcu.org.

Also, please get the word out about the tournament.  Teams are still needed to make this a success.  Get teams from your workplace, participate yourself, share on Facebook, Tweet, and do everything you can to spread the word!!

The Opening Act

President Jeff Behrens called the meeting of August 26 to order.  Once again, providing the entertainment was Jonathan Turner with the Summer Bank Holiday Band, celebrated in all of the United Kingdom except for Scotland.

Guests included our Lieutenant Governor, the incoming Lieutenant Governor, and representatives of the Alleman High School Key Club, among others.

Dale Grabau suggested that those who are interested in joining the fun in marching in the Labor Day parade gather at 9:00 a.m. Labor Day in the 18th Avenue, Rock Island branch parking lot for American Bank & Trust.

Standing in for Adam Bain, President Jeff again emphasized the importance of having a good turnout of teams for the bags tournament September 21.

Liz Loveless gave another pitch for the NAMI Walk on September 28 and thanked those who had participated in providing toiletry items for the Veterans Stand-Down.

The next Interclub will be the rolle bolle make-up in Atkinson on September 11.

Our outgoing Lieutenant Governor took advantage of the opportunity to say a few words in letting us know that the annual Megaclub luncheon will be held September 19 in Davenport at the Outing Club.  He continued by making a few parting remarks and sharing a few vignettes from his past year in office.

Next, we all had the opportunity to honor our latest Hixson Award recipient, Daryl Empen.  Congratulations, Daryl, and thank you for all of your hard work.

In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize, and Jim Horstmann won the opportunity to lose the grand prize.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by Club member, Jeff Condit, and the subject matter was Friendship Manor.  Jeff augmented his presentation with a number of slides concerning Friendship Manor and shared a few remarks on the background of the organization and statistical details of the operation.  Overall, it was an excellent presentation of a significantly honorable and highly-recognized asset of the community.
