Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

The 5th Annual Kiwanis-Pepsi Bags Tournament is around the corner, September 21st at Schwiebert Park.  Volunteers are needed in many areas.  Please contact Kim Brozovich, our volunteer coordinator this year, if you can assist in any way.  Her email is kbrozovich@ihmvcu.org.

The Opening Act

Club President, Jeff Behrens, called the meeting of August 19 to order.  Once again, providing the entertainment was Jonathan Turner and his Rib Fest Singers.

President Jeff reminded us of our Club's traditional participation in the Rock Island Labor Day parade, which Dale Grabau suggested was well in hand.

President Jeff also informed us that grant applications would be considered by the Grants Committee shortly.

Adam Bain made another pitch, or toss maybe, on the bags tournament.  If you can think of a few folks who could get together to form a team, please don't be shy about letting Adam know.

President Jeff informed us that there would be no meeting on Monday, September 2, but there will be a joint meeting with Rotary on Tuesday, September 3, at which time, we will be meeting with the Rock Island Rotary Club and be presented with the annual State of the Schools message from the Superintendent of Schools.

Liz Loveless made a pitch both for Stand Down and the NAMI Walk coming up in September.

In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize, as well as the opportunity to go for the grand prize, but Mike Bell kept the money in the Club treasury.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by Sue Skogland of Pregnancy Resources.  Sue gave some background on the organization, the types of programs it presents, and its mission.  This is a faith-based organization with numerous programs available in the case of unplanned pregnancies.  The program affords training and a number of tools for those choosing birth over any alternative.  The organization also assists in adoptions and addressing the matter of STDs.  The organization is entirely privately-funded.
