Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

Please keep Rev. Joe Robb in your prayers this week.  Member John Califf has informed us that Joe will be undergoing radiation treatment on his brain this week for cancer related to melanoma.

Saturday, March 23rd.  Annual RI Parks/Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt, Lincoln Park.

The Opening Act

Filling in for Club President, Jeff Behrens, was First Vice President, John Califf.  Entertainment was once again provided by Jonathan Turner and the Turkey Spiners.

In a moving moment, attending our meeting was Bonnie Townsend, the wife of long-time Club member, past Club President, and Division Lieutenant Governor, Daryl Townsend.  Bonnie came to give her greetings on the day of the meeting that her husband

attended almost every Monday.  The Club gave its grateful appreciation to Bonnie's thoughtful and gracious presence.

The first presentation of the day was one to the Jordan Builders Club.  This Club received $770 as its share of the receipts from the recent Pancake Day.

Tom Hanson reminded us that the next re-rescheduled Interclub is to be March 12 at Moline, followed by an Interclub on March 18 with the East Moline/Silvis group.

Tom Plechaty announced that Rose Day would be on March 24 and that receipts for sales of tickets should be in Tom's hands by April 9.

Liz Loveless reminded us that the bowling extravaganza would be held April 7 and that the Jordan Builders Club might be attempting to assemble a team to attend as well.  There's still time to shake the dust off your favorite polyester shirt and get ready for a good time.

We were reminded that the Easter egg hunt would be held March 23 in Lincoln Park and that prior to that event, the Club will be having a rousing egg-stuffing session before the hunt.

Guests included representatives of the Jordan Builders Club.

Mark Amacher presented a prospective resolution on behalf of the Kartel, humbly requesting a grant from the Club in recognition of the dollars the Kartel has posted with the Club treasury.  Among hoots and guffaws, the resolution was respectfully ignored.

Dale Grabau gave an announcement that health-wise, he seems to be improving.  As those of us who have enjoyed the delight of being nuked with radiation, Dale made the candid observation that he's now found that he can read the newspaper without having to turn any lights on.

In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize.  A representative of the Jordan Builders Club won the opportunity to go for the grand prize and managed to wrest it out of the hands of Zach Edwards.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by a representative of the YMCA's Activate Rock Island program.  Brief introductory remarks were made, among them being that the Y began in 1855 and made its first presence known in the Quad Cities in 1885.  The Y is the first non-denominational faith-based organization organized.  The organization focuses on the spirit, mind and body.  Camp Dudley was the first boys' camp, and James Naismith of basketball fame was an early presence with the Y.  The presentation continued with answers to the questions of what is the Y, why the Y, why youth development, why healthy living, and why social responsibility.

Upcoming Programs
