Volume 92 No 14                     February 4, 2013
Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

Sunday, February 17th, Pancake Day,

Jointly Sponsored with Jordan Builders Club,

Monday, February 18th, Use it or Luge It, Snowstar Ski Area

The Opening Act

Club President, Jeff Behrens, called the meeting of February 4 to order.  Again providing the entertainment was Jonathan Turner and his Go Daddy Singers.

Jeff gave us a few reminders for future activities.  The rejuvenated Pancake Day will occur the morning of February 17 at Farrell Hall.  There is still a need for workers early in the morning, so please sign up with Chris Elsberg if you can.

Monday the 18th will be the Use It or Luge It event out at Snowstar.  The Club Board will be relying heavily on the entreaties of Club clergy for snow.

The satellite Club will meet February 13 and this group is looking at identifying a project.

Guests included representatives of the Rock Island High School Key Club, as well as a Dean at Rocky, Tia Rice.

In Fun and Fellowship, Heidi Huiskamp-Collins won the preliminary prize, which she graciously donated back to the Club.  Qualifying for the grand prize was the Notel group.  Liz Loveless represented Notel but, thankfully for the Club, Game Meister Mike Bell said "no way!"

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by Andy Rockwell, a graduate of Rock Island High School, as well as West Point.  Andy began his presentation by giving some of his background, including his educational experiences and his recent earning of an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.  He next went on to cover his employment history which consisted of his serving as an officer in the United States Army and, for the past several years, occupying a supervisory position with Deere & Company.  The focus of his presentation was his recollection of his experiences in serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and giving his story of his involvement in that war and the experiences he shared in his extremely difficult recovery.  Andy gave a scenario of events leading up to his being wounded, his experiences during recovery, and his memories of these experiences.  Andy gave special mention to three organizations from which he benefitted during his recovery, Fisher House, Always Faithful Dogs, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
