Volume 92 No 13                     January 28, 2013
Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

Sunday, February 17th, Pancake Day,

Jointly Sponsored with Jordan Builders Club,

Monday, February 18th, Use it or Luge It, Snowstar Ski Area

The Opening Act

Club President, Jeff Behrens, called the meeting of January 28 to order.  Providing entertainment again was our own Jonathan Turner and his Sanka Singers.

There were only a few announcements.  Jeff Behrens reminded us of Pancake Day on February 17.  Those who attended the meeting were encouraged to accept and sell Pancake Day tickets.  Let's do our best to make what used to be a Club activity highlight as fun and successful as ever.

We were also again reminded of the Use It or Luge It competition to be held February 18.  The setting again will be Snowstar and, with any luck, there will be snow on the course.  Watch the weather forecast and if it doesn't look like we'll have enough snow, remember to bring along cans of Pam.

The Governor's visit was held January 26 and a good meal and great Kiwanis fellowship were the order of the day.

Guests included members of the Rock Island High School Key Club and an Interclub group of rolle bolle aficionados from Atkinson.

Happy/Sad Dollars included one from Dale Blocklinger in grateful appreciation for the honors he has received from the National Realtor Association.

In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize.  Tom Smith won the opportunity to go for the grand prize, which Mike Bell managed to keep for the Club treasury.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by Rick Eugene, who spoke concerning the food drive for River Bend Food Bank.  A scheduling conflict caused your Editor to have to leave before the program was completed, but I'm sure that any of those present, like, for instance, Daryl Empen, would be delighted to fill you in.

Upcoming Programs

February 4th    Andy Rockwell, Wounded Warriors Project.

PHRASE FOR THE DAY

"You may be disappointed if you fall, but you are doomed if you don't try."

- Beverly Sills
