Our Club President, Jeff Behrens, called the meeting of Monday, December 17, to order. Providing the entertainment was the always-merry Jonathan "Jingles" Turner and his Reindeer Ramblers.
President Jeff made one last passing of the pot for our tip to the fine folks from Bridges, who handle our meals.
Chris Elsberg reminded us that those wishing to participate at the MLK Christmas party should try to be there around 4:00 p.m.
Tom Plechaty was pleased to announce that he only had a few stray packages of cheese left, which Club members graciously and enthusiastically snapped up. Tom was pleased to inform the Club that this was our best year ever with this project.
Jeff Behrens also announced that the clothing drive for the benefit of Rock Island Schools was immensely successful, thanks to the generosity of Herman's.
The snowfall contest is still on due to the fact that our area is now within a few days of the record longest period without measurable snow.
The Governor's visit will be January 26 at the Botanical Center. Our Club will be serving as hosts, so let's hope to have a good turnout.
As a reminder, the Club will not be meeting Monday, December 24 or Monday, January 7. There will be no substitute for the Christmas Eve meeting, and the substitute date for the January 7 meeting will be Tuesday, January 8, when we will serve as hosts for our Rotarian friends on the event of the State of the City address by Mayor Pauley.
President Jeff informed us that the Board has decided to take another crack at Pancake Day. This will be February 17 and will be managed with the assistance of our Builder's Club.
Guests included members of the Rock Island High School Key Club, as well as Rocky's principal, Mr. Tim Wernentin.
In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize. Dick Timmer won the opportunity to go for the grand prize, which he managed to wrest away from the withering grip of Mr. Bell.
Before we went into our program, Jeff called in the Bridges folks and presented them with their holiday gratuity.
