80th Street Residence
New York, NY
The 80th Street Residence is a specialized memory care assisted living community on New York City's Upper East Side.
Recently, the facility hired Olivia Lu, a classical pianist and harpist as Therapeutic Music Director. Lu had previously volunteered at the residence and is pursuing a Master's degree in music therapy, jumped at the chance to join the full-time staff when the opportunity presented itself.
In her new role, Lu has recruited and encouraged residents to join the "80th Street Chorus," who are now practicing weekly for a holiday concert for the families, staff and friends of the 80th Street Residence.
Lu also ensures there is live music every day, playing harp while residents eat breakfast and piano at other times of day. For individuals who may not be able to leave their rooms for performances, Lu brings the performance to them, by playing harp in their rooms.
