Washington Update
Advisory Council on Alzheimer's Research, Care and Services
|
The Advisory Council on Alzheimer's Research, Care and Services recently held its quarterly meeting with the theme "White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA) and Dementia." Council members heard presentations on how dementia impacts the four main WHCoA themes: elder justice, healthy aging, long term services and supports, and retirement security. Click here for presentations, slides and meeting video.
The Advisory Council also stated that the 2015 update to the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease is expected to be released this month. To date, of the 121 activities outlined in the plan 50 have been completed; 56 are ongoing; and 15 are not completed.
In addition, the meeting included a briefing on the Institute of Medicine's (IoM's) report, "Cognitive Aging: Progress in Understanding and Opportunities for Action." Ultimately, the report calls for a societal commitment to cognitive aging as a public health issue that requires prompt action across many sectors - health care providers, individuals and families, community groups, financial organizations and more.
The next Advisory Council meeting is scheduled for July 27, in Washington.
