Alzheimer's Foundation Awards Grants to Grassroots Organizations

The Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) recently awarded $50,000 in grants to 10 local groups from coast to coast that provide care and enrichment programs vital to maintaining quality of life for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and for their families.

Five of the grants will help grassroots nonprofit agencies fund programs--from the creative arts to education--aimed at supporting and engaging people with dementia and their caregivers. AFA awarded the other five grants to law enforcement agencies to create or sustain Project Lifesaver search and rescue programs.

"The needs of the dementia population continue to increase in local communities, as the incidence of the disease escalates," said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA's chief executive officer. "These organizations are going above and beyond to deliver quality care today and in the future to people affected by this heartbreaking disease."
