Effective Jan. 1, 2015, RSA 275:37, relative to Equal Pay, is changed and there is a new mandatory poster for employers. Read the changed text of the Equal Pay law. The new mandatory poster is on the NH Department of Labor's website. Other related changes were made to RSA 275:38, 38-a, 40, 41, 41-a , 41-b, 41-c and 41-d. Review these statutes.  The NH Bar Association seeks volunteers to act as timers at the We the People state finals on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at the Legislative Office Building in Concord. Four volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon, and three are needed from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Volunteers can choose a session or stay for the day. Volunteer attorney timers receive the same information and training as WTP judges - if there is a cancellation, an attorney timer will move into a judging position. The Rudman Center at UNH Law hosts " Political Reform," an evening with Senator Olympia Snowe and former Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman. Join us for a thoughtful conversation with Maine's former Senator, author of Fighting for Common Ground: How We Can Fix the Stalemate in Congress. Snowe will engage in discussion with Glickman, who is currently a Bipartisan Policy Center senior fellow and co-chairs its Commission on Political Reform. This event is free and open to the public. The NH Bar Association is seeking nominations for positions on the NHBA Board of Governors for the membership year starting in June 2015. The petition is available on the Bar's website. The membership will elect four at-large governors, including one from the public/public interest sector, and one representing out-of-state members. These board seats carry three-year terms. Nominations for Vice President (one-year term), Secretary, and Treasurer (three-year terms) will also be made by petition. Members in Cheshire, Coos, Grafton, Merrimack and Rockingham counties must nominate county governors, each for a two-year term. County Governor nominations require 10 signatures from voting members in the particular county; officer and at-large petitions require 25 signatures. Petitions are due March 1, 2015; election to be through online ballots sent to eligible members starting April 1. The Guide to Appellate Advocacy in New Hampshire by Lisa Wolford, of the Attorney General's Office, and Stephanie Hausman, of the Appellate Defender Office, is now available on the Bar's website and offers:
- guidance for both civil and criminal appellate practitioners, and a useful discussion of briefing and argument;
- a one-page checklist of the NH Supreme Court rules governing the required contents of the brief;
- an overview of the main sections of the brief, providing an easy way to locate particular topics.
The Guide is offered for use by NHBA members and the public by the authors and is published as a courtesy by the NH Bar Association, which is not responsible for its content. The Guide is copyrighted by the authors and is available for individual use, not for commercial republication.
