Fourteen NH attorneys have been selected to participate in the NH Bar Association Leadership Academy - Class of 2015.

The attorneys, who have all been in practice for three-10 years, include eight small firm lawyers, four large firm lawyers, one solo practitioner and one public defender.

The Leadership Academy kicks off with an introductory reception including the new class and alumni on Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Bar Center. The program begins in earnest with a retreat Oct. 17-18.

NH Bar members contribute thousands of hours in donated legal services each year. Help us tell the story of lawyers volunteering their time and talent in support of equal access to justice.

The Justice for All Challenge calls on lawyers to report on the good work they do during calendar year 2014. You can report your commitment individually or as a firm.

The Belknap County Bar will host a social event TONIGHT at C.J. Avery's, 10 Railroad Ave., Laconia.

Belknap County attorneys, staff, friends and family are invited to attend and are encouraged to bring donations of winter clothing for the Santa Fund.

The social will run from 5-6:30 p.m. Following the social, stay for a $25 prix fixe dinner at C.J. Avery's, including an appetizer, main course and dessert. If you would like to stay for the dinner, please email jlent@class-actions.us as soon as possible.

Non-perishable food items are also welcome and will be donated to the Restorative Justice program.

Ron Elving

In another collaboration of NHPR and the Warren B. Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership and Public Policy at UNH Law, the Justice & Journalism speaker series presents Ron Elving, senior Washington editor for NPR News, from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at UNH Law.

Laura Knoy of NHPR will moderate this discussion with Elving, author of Conflict and Compromise: How Congress Makes Laws.

This is a free event, but you can reserve tickets online until Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The Manchester Bar Association will hold its October meeting at the Derryfield Country Club on Tuesday, Oct. 21. Come for cocktails at 5:30 p.m., stay for dinner and discussions by members of the judiciary about the state's drug court and mental health court programs starting at 6:15 p.m.

Judges Kenneth Brown, John Emery and Gregory Michael will be the speakers and special guests.

The NHBA Solo/Small Firm Discussion Group is scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Bar Center. Janet DeVito and Craig Calaman from the NH Attorney Discipline Office will speak to the group on the NH Supreme Court amended rules governing IOLTA and firm recordkeeping.

The Solo/Small Firm Discussion Group offers a venue for solo and small-firm practitioners to assist each other by sharing knowledge and information around issues unique to the solo and small firm practice setting. For more information, please contact Rosemarie Atwood.

The Circuit Court in Concord will be hosting a brown bag lunch meeting for marital law practitioners on Monday, Oct. 27. Judge Leonard and Master Geiger will be in attendance.

A brown bag lunch meeting on juvenile justice matters is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14, with Judges Boyle and Spath.

The meetings will be held at noon in the courthouse library.

In conjunction with NHPR, the Warren B. Rudman Center will hold individual one-hour conversations with each of New Hampshire's candidates for Governor, US Senate and US Congress over the coming weeks.
