The New Hampshire Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Rules (committee) has recommended a number of proposed rule amendments to the New Hampshire Supreme Court for adoption.

Members of the bench, bar, legislature, executive branch or public may submit comments on the proposed amendments to the clerk of the NH Supreme Court until Monday, Oct. 20. An original and seven copies of all comments shall be filed. Comments may also be emailed to the court at rulescomment@courts.state.nh.us. Read the court's order inviting comment.



The NH Bar Association, in conjunction with Applied Statistics Laboratory of Ann Arbor, Mich., is conducting an Economics of Law Practice survey for use by the membership. The survey will be circulated later this month. An email from the Bar Association will be sent containing a link to the survey. It asks for income information for the complete year of 2013.

With members' assistance, this survey will provide useful benchmarks and information to help members manage their practices. A slightly different survey will all ask about compensation and other information from public-sector and house counsel.

There will be a drawing for an incentive to respond.



Jazz for Justice - The NH Bar Foundation Annual Dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 23 features live music from the award-winning dance and swing band, Rico Barr & the Jump 'n' Jazz Review, led by attorney Ralph Barbagallo.

null The Circuit Court in Concord will be hosting a brown bag lunch meeting for marital law practitioners on Monday, Oct. 27. Judge Leonard and Master Geiger will be in attendance.

A brown bag lunch meeting on juvenile justice matters is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14, with Judge Boyle and Judge Spath.

The meetings will be held at noon in the courthouse library.



NH Bar Association membership dues and NH Supreme Court fees are overdue. If you have not paid invoices for dues or court fees yet, do so now to avoid additional fees and penalties. Members can conveniently pay online using a credit card.

Members who have not submitted their Trust Account Compliance form (required by NH Supreme Court Rule 50-A of all members in ACTIVE membership status any time between June 1, 2013, and May 31, 2014, regardless of whether a trust account exists) are now subject to fees and penalties by the NH Supreme Court. Members should mail or deliver the Trust Account Compliance form to NHBA, Attn: TAC, 2 Pillsbury St., Suite 300, Concord, NH 03301, as soon as possible to avoid additional fines.

DOVE This full-day continuing legal education seminar on Tuesday, Sept. 30, is hosted by the NHBA's Domestic Violence Emergency (DOVE) Project and will focus on the basics, from conveying insight into the dynamics of domestic abuse to providing effective legal advocacy for victims seeking domestic violence restraining orders.

The cost is $65 for attorneys willing to accept two restraining order cases within the next year, or current Pro Bono and DOVE volunteers. Register online.



Bar News is looking for articles on alternative dispute resolution for the October issue. Articles should address developments in practice and/or offer tips to fellow practitioners. The US District Court for the District of New Hampshire is hosting a swearing-in ceremony for Andrea Johnstone as United States Magistrate Judge to be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Warren B. Rudman United States Courthouse, 55 Pleasant St. in Concord.
