 A Brown Bag lunch discussion about the Initial Appearance Pilot Project for felony cases in Cheshire County has been rescheduled for noon on Friday, May 30, at the superior court. As part of the NH Superior Court's Felony Case Flow initiative, the superior courts in Cheshire and Strafford counties have been designated as pilot courts for the project, which will start June 2 in Strafford County and July 1 in Cheshire County. The NH Supreme Court has adopted temporary rules for the pilot project, which will bring felony defendants before superior court judges prior to grand jury indictment. Superior Court Chief Justice Tina Nadeau plans to attend the Brown Bag meeting with the county judge and clerk. All criminal practitioners in Cheshire County are invited to attend.

The NH Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Rules has scheduled a public hearing at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, for review of a set of proposed rules, including a trust accounting notification requirement and revisions to rules that govern the Attorney Discipline System. Comments on the proposed rules may be submitted to the secretary of the committee on or before June 6 by email to rulescomment@courts.state.nh.us. Comments may also be mailed or delivered to: NH Supreme Court, Advisory Committee on Rules, 1 Charles Doe Drive, Concord, NH 03301. The NH Women's Bar Association is now accepting nominations for the 2014 Marilla M. Ricker Achievement Award. Named for the first woman to apply for admission to the NH bar, the Ricker Award honors outstanding women lawyers in New Hampshire who have achieved professional excellence, paved the way to success for other women lawyers, advanced opportunities for women in the profession and/or performed exemplary public service on behalf of women. NH Bar News is accepting proposals for articles in a combined practice area section in the June issue, featuring municipal law, government law and intellectual property. Articles should address developments in the law, intersections with other practice areas, and/or practice tips for attorneys. Proposals, including brief outlines, should be sent by Monday, May 12, to managing editor Kristen Senz. Completed articles (between 800 and 1,000 words) are due Tuesday, May 27. United States Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli Jr. will deliver the John W. King Lecture at the New Hampshire Supreme Court on May 16.
The King lecture series is co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Supreme Court and the New Hampshire Supreme Court Society. A limited number of seats are available for General Verrilli's lecture.
An RSVP is required and a waiting list will be maintained as demand for seats is expected to exceed supply. Priority seating will be provided to New Hampshire Supreme Court Society members.
