 Two attorneys, Scott Harris of the McLane firm and David Ruoff of Howard & Ruoff, are running for NHBA vice president, a leadership-track officer position that typically results in assuming the presidency of the association after two years. Several other board members are running unopposed. The ballot includes statements and bios for each candidate. Ballots were emailed to eligible voters on Monday which contain links to a secure online elections site. Ballots will be accepted until April 15. NHBA members will receive their annual bill for membership dues the first week of June. Also included with the annual membership dues invoice is a separate invoice for the mandatory court fees established by the New Hampshire Supreme Court. Association dues and NH Supreme Court fees are due and payable 30 days from invoice date. Please note important changes to the billing process and due dates: May 15: Deadline to submit membership status, email, name and address updates in preparation for annual dues and court fees billing. Submit updates to member records coordinator Susan Lakeway. First week of June: Dues and court fees invoices are delivered, via email from billing@nhbar.org, to member's email address on record with NHBA (delivered via US Postal Service for those without Internet/email access). Please be sure your security allows emails received from the sender, billing@nhbar.org. First week of July: Dues and court fees payments are due and payable to the NH Bar Association 30 days from invoice date. Sept. 1: Deliquency fee of $50 assessed to all members who have not paid dues and court fees and warning of pending suspension sent to members from NHBA. Nov. 1: Administrative Suspension for non-payment of dues and court fees. See excerpt of NHBA's Constitution, Section 6, for more information.

The NH Division for Child Support Services has released the annual revision of the state's child support guidelines. The 2014 NH Child Support Guidelines are available on the NH Bar Association website. Family Law Section members can access additional files for higher-income households and archived guidelines on the Section's resource page. (Members only).

 Starting this spring, prosecutors and criminal defense attorneys in Strafford and Cheshire counties will go before a superior court judge to discuss a defendant's case prior to indictment by grand jury. As part of the NH Superior Court's Felony Case Flow initiative, the superior courts in Cheshire and Strafford counties have been designated as pilot courts for the Initial Appearance Pilot Project. The pilot project will start June 2 in Strafford County and July 1 in Cheshire County. Rules for the Pilot Project have been drafted and circulated for comment and will be sent to the Supreme Court for review in April. Chief Justice Nadeau is holding the following brown bag lunch meetings to discuss the pilot project:

The supervisory judges and clerks for those counties will also be present. All criminal practitioners in these counties are invited to attend. Copies of the rules will be circulated at the brown bag meetings.

The New Hampshire Lawyers chapter of the Federalist Society invites members of the bar to attend a debate of the question, "Can NSA monitoring of domestic communications be reconciled with individual constitutional liberty interests?" on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at UNH Law School.
Participants will be former NH Supreme Court Justice and former US Congressman Charles G. Douglas III and former deputy assistant secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security, Paul Rosenzweig. The debate will be moderated by UNH Law Professor Calvin Massey.
