NH Bar's Pro Bono Month celebration includes the return of the popular how-to series, Divorce Camp. A three-session course offered by the NHBA Pro Bono Referral Program, Divorce Camp provides a practical introduction to divorce and parenting law. Divorce Camp equips attorneys to handle a simple family law case, from the client interview through final hearing and all steps in between, including mediation. All attendees must take a Pro Bono family law case as part of the curriculum. Mentors will be available, and professional liability insurance is provided. By Supreme Court order, the $50 per party ADR fee has been eliminated, replaced by a $10 ADR surcharge to new civil filings. The rule took effect Oct. 1, 2013.

 The US District Court - District of NH has published a revised set of proposed local rules, seeking public comment by Nov. 2. The rules are set to take effect Dec. 1, 2013. The rule changes include several new or revised forms. Read the Proposed Amendments to Local Rules.

The University of NH hosts its 5th Annual Intercollegiate Mock Trial Invitational Tournament for undergraduates October 26-27, 2012, at UNH's campus in Durham. Attorneys are needed to serve as judges, presiding over mock trial rounds and evaluating students' performances. Attorneys do not need to be sitting judges, active litigators or familiar with college mock trial to participate; judges will receive a brief training that will equip them for the task. For each day, there will be one morning and one afternoon trial session.  Help the public and have a good time doing it - Lawline, the Bar's telephone advice line, takes place on the second Wednesday of each month. Volunteers are needed for Wednesday, Dec. 11 and Jan. 8, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. Three to five attorneys ideally needed to answer calls and provide general advice from your home or office with calls forwarded via our toll-free line; the Bar Association picks up the tab for pizza or sandwiches.
