The US District Court has posted proposed amendments to its local rules that are scheduled for adoption Dec. 1. The court will be accepting comments on the proposed rules until Nov. 2.

The rule changes cover, among other things, motions to extend, electronic disclosures, protective orders, dissemination of juror questionnaires, and attorney discipline rules. View the 27-page PDF file.

Carrie Johnson
NH Public Radio and the Warren B. Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership and Public Policy present the next event in their ongoing series, Justice & Journalism. Carrie Johnson, NPR's justice correspondent, will be speaking about justice issues, law enforcement and legal affairs, including her recent coverage of the Snowden and NSA security breach.

The conversation at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at UNH Law will be hosted by NHPR's Laura Knoy. Audience questions will be encouraged. Tickets are complimentary, reservation is required, and space is limited. Please register online by Oct. 26.



Constitutionally Speaking invites you to a discussion on Confronting the Threats to Privacy and What We Can Do About It, led by Trevor Hughes, president and CEO of the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

The NHBA Low-Income Taxpayer Project will host a CLE seminar on Friday, Nov. 8, focusing on return filing and examinations. The seminar will feature a panel of five practitioners and clinic directors, as well as two videos produced by the Taxpayer Advocate Service, and will run from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., downstairs in the seminar room at 2 Pillsbury St. in Concord. Check-in and continental breakfast start at 8 a.m. Register online.

The NH chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union will host the Bill of Rights Dinner on Sunday, Nov. 3, at Fratellos Restaurant, 155 Dow St., Manchester, NH.

The Bill of Rights Award recipient is Valerie Cunningham, co-author of Black Portsmouth: Three Centuries of African American Heritage. The featured speaker is Dennis Parker, racial justice program director at the American Civil Liberties Union.

Learn more about the work of New Hampshire's civil legal services agencies and the Campaign for Legal Services at a reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Tues., Oct. 29, at the Portsmouth Brewery, 56 Market St. The campaign supports NH Legal Assistance, Legal Advice and Referral Center, and the NH Bar's Pro Bono Referral Program.

NH Bar's Pro Bono Month celebration includes the return of the popular "how-to"series, Divorce Camp.

The Pro Bono Referral Program provides a practical introduction to divorce and parenting law held in three sessions. Divorce Camp equips attorneys to handle a simple family law case, from the client interview through final hearing, and all steps in between, including mediation.

All attendees must take a Pro Bono family case as part of the curriculum. Mentors will be available, and professional liability insurance is provided. Camp is limited to the first 25 registrants. Attendance at all sessions is required.

6th Circuit Juvenile Law Meeting - 10/18
The 6th Circuit Court in Concord will have a brown bag lunch meeting for juvenile law practitioners and personnel from noon-1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18. For more information, contact Melanie Oliver.

9th Circuit Brown Bag in Manchester - 10/25
The 9th Circuit Family Division in Manchester invites marital and family law attorneys to a brown bag luncheon from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25. Practitioners are invited to bring a lunch and join family division judges and staff for general discussion, including a period for questions and answers. Please RSVP by Friday, Oct. 18, by email.



The University of NH hosts its 5th Annual Intercollegiate Mock Trial Invitational Tournament for undergraduates October 26-27, 2012, at UNH's campus in Durham.

Attorneys are needed to serve as judges, presiding over mock trial rounds and evaluating students' performances. Attorneys do not need to be sitting judges, active litigators or familiar with college mock trial to participate; judges will receive a brief training that will equip them for the task. For each day, there will be one morning and one afternoon trial session.

Steve Scudder, the NH-based general counsel to the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service, will receive the 2013 Bruce E. Friedman Pro Bono Award at UNH Law at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
