A memorial service for Judge Harold Perkins is scheduled for 10 a.m. next Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Belknap Superior Court in Laconia.

Judge Perkins was recently named the 2013 recipient of the Justice William A. Grimes Judicial Professionalism Award and was honored as a 50-year member of the NH Bar Association. He passed away Aug. 23. Read a recent Bar News profile of Judge Perkins.



The current term of Chief Deputy Clerk/United States Magistrate Judge Daniel J. Lynch of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire expires Jan. 14. The Court is required by law to establish a panel to consider the reappointment of the magistrate judge to a new four-year term.

Members of the bar and the public are invited to comment on whether Lynch should be recommended for reappointment to the court as a combined chief deputy clerk/magistrate judge. All comments will be confidential and only reviewed by the Merit Selection Panel and the judges of the US District Court for the District of New Hampshire.

Comments should be directed to James R. Starr, Clerk of Court, 55 Pleasant St., Room 110, Concord, NH 03301 and marked MERIT PANEL SELECTION - CONFIDENTIAL. Comments must be received by Sept. 27.



The Judicial Conference Advisory Committees on Bankruptcy and Civil Rules have proposed amendments to rules and forms. The proposed amendments, rules committee reports, and other information are available on the Judiciary's website. All comments on these proposed amendments will be carefully considered by the rules committees.

Please provide any comments on the proposed amendments, whether favorable, adverse, or otherwise, as soon as possible and by Feb. 15, 2014. All comments are made part of the official record and are available to the public. Comments concerning the proposed amendments may be submitted and reviewed electronically by following these instructions.



The NH Bar Association's contract with Casemaker is up for renewal, and we want to make sure we are providing the best possible legal research service for our members. Come to one of a series of events where representatives from Casemaker and a similar service, Fastcase, will demonstrate the features of their respective research sites. The association will be collecting member feedback.

The Solo & Small Firm Networking Group holds a Casemaker demo today, Sept. 25, from 3-5 p.m. Events also are planned in Nashua, Portsmouth, Laconia and Newport. Details in a special e-Bulletin on Thursday.

Now available online, the latest issue of the NH Bar Journal addresses international law and includes an excerpt from a new edition of Patriots, Pirates, Politicians and Profit Seekers, a popular book and teaching aide about New Hampshire cases argued at the US Supreme Court.

The Title Standards Committee, a committee of the NH Bar Real Property Law Section, has completed its annual review of the 2012 Title Examination Standards. Proposed revisions were circulated to section members earlier this month.
