Former Gov. Lynch at Bar Foundation Reception - 3/8
Former Gov. John Lynch will attend the NH Bar Foundation Fellows & Donors Reception at 5:15 p.m., on March 8. Attorneys Philip Waystack and Emily Rice, who, as co-chairs of the governor's Judicial Selection Commission, spent countless hours reviewing judicial nominees, will be recognized as the 2013 Honorary Bar Foundation Fellows. 

The reception begins at 5:15 p.m. in the Curriers room at the Radisson Hotel/Center of NH. Intended primarily for NH Bar Foundation donors and supporters, Bar members with an interest in the Bar Foundation are encouraged to attend. There will be a cash bar. Also taking place will be the formal presentation of Justice Grants to a number of nonprofit organizations with legal services or education projects and recognition of IOLTA Leadership Banks.

Advance Midyear Meeting Registration Closed
Advance registration is not available for the March 8 Midyear Meeting. Very limited seating for the morning or afternoon CLE programs or the luncheon is available. Contact Cheryl Moore for information.

NHCLU Open House Tonight - 3/6
The NH Civil Liberties Union will host an open house from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, at its redesigned Concord office at 18 Low Ave. Meet the new executive director, Devon Chaffee, and learn more about the organization's work. Light hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine will be served.

An event to honor Claire Ebel on her retirement after 30 years as executive director of the NH Civil Liberties Union is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, at Capitol Center for the Arts.

9th Circuit Family Division Brown Bag Lunch - 4/12
The 9th Circuit Family Division in Manchester invites marital and family law attorneys to a brown bag luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 12. Practitioners are invited to bring a lunch and join Judge Susan Carbon, Judge John Emery, Marital Master Thomas Cooper, Child Support Referee Dana Zucker, Circuit Court Administrator Brigette Siff Holmes, Clerk Mary Barton, Associate Clerk Katie Tripp, and case managers Susan Hall and Renee Schmidtchen for a discussion, as well as a period for questions and answers.

Scam Targets Lawyers - Beware!
Lawyers in the US and Canada, including at least one in New Hampshire, are the targets of a recent scam that is perpetrated through email or website inquiries. The fraudster claims to need a lawyer to help collect the balance of a divorce or other settlement while she is out of the country.

ABA Seeks Award Nominations - Due 3/29
The ABA Commission on Disability Rights is seeking nominations for the 2013 Paul G. Hearne Award for Disability Rights. This award is presented to an outstanding advocate for persons with disabilities who has achieved professional excellence in the field and will be presented in August during the ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco. Click here for more information and to submit a nomination by the close of business on Friday, March 29.

Bids for Public Defender & GAL Services - 3/29
The State of New Hampshire, through the Judicial Council, is soliciting bids for public defender services pursuant to RSA 604-B and other relevant statutes, including appellate representation, capital murder and the civil commitment of sexually violent predators. Through the Judicial Council, the state is also soliciting bids for guardian ad litem services pursuant to RSA 169-C:10; RSA 169-C:24-a; RSA 170-C; appeals under RSA 169-C:28 and Supreme Court Appeals from these referenced statutes.

Obtain these documents at www.nh.gov/judicialcouncil or by contacting Christopher Keating, executive director of the NH Judicial Council, 271-3592. The deadline for receipt of proposals is 5 p.m. Friday, March 29.

Slate of BOG Candidates Unveiled
With the nomination deadline passed, the following candidates will appear on ballots for new terms in the 2013-2014 NHBA Board of Governors. The election will take place online from April 1 through April 15. More details and a link to candidate biographical information to come later this month. This year, there are two contested races (indicated by *).

The President-elect is nominated by the NHBA Board of Governors; all other candidates are nominated by petition. Jaye L. Rancourt, of Manchester, automatically succeeds Larry Vogelman as President at the conclusion of the 2013 Annual Meeting in Portsmouth on June 21. Appearing on the ballot will be:
