Plain Language Awards - 1/31
The Center for Plain Language, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to clear information in business, government and nonprofits, is now accepting submissions for its 2013 ClearMark Awards. The Awards honor submissions in two categories: the ClearMark Awards honor the clearest, most concise language in a document or a website; the WonderMark Awards note confusing and unclear language in a document or website. Submissions are being accepted until Jan. 31, 2013, at www.centerforplainlanguage.org.

Tax Advice for 'Working Poor'
Help spread the word about the Earned Income Tax Credit. The EITC is one of the nation's largest anti-poverty programs, annually lifting 6.6 million people out of poverty, but an estimated 20 percent of eligible taxpayers don't know they can claim the credit.

Attorneys are well positioned to let their clients and others know. Free tax preparation is available at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites around the state. Call 1-800-906-9887 or visit irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep/ to find a VITA site near you.

Are you interested in helping out? Barbara Stewart coordinates the Low-Income Taxpayer Project at the Bar Association. Contact bstewart@nhbar.org.

NH Workplace Safety Reporting Law
The NH Department of Labor reminds employers that Safety Summary filing and Joint Loss Management Committee requirements have changed. Changes to RSA 281-A:64 took effect Jan. 1, 2013.
