Raising the Holistic Child
Insight practitioners to participate in panel discussion with the American Holistic Medical Association (AHMA)
Join AHMA's Northeast Ohio Chapter
at the Cleveland Clinic Independence Family Health Center
Thursday, Sept. 26, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Panel Participants
Kathleen Corcoran, PhD, Clinical Psychologist
Kathleen, a Certified Gottman Therapist and Trainer, will offer remarks entitled Emotion Coaching Plus. She will illuminate the importance of the role of emotion coaching and offer practical guidance to help parents focus and attend to their own health and well-being in order to raise a holistic child. In addition, hearing the latest research on the role that emotion plays in children's holistic health and development, participants will learn the five steps of emotion coaching as well as 5 energy balancing exercises parents can teach their children to help regulate strong, stress emotions.
Sal Di Liello, ND,
Naturopathic Doctor
In Children and Nutrition Sal will present how painless naturopathic approaches to nutritional assessments for children, including hair analysis and muscle testing can give valuable answers. He will discuss the most common deficiencies and their behavioral/physical symptoms, as well as "easier than you think" dietary changes, plus herbal and whole food supplements to remedy their needs. In preparation for the cold/flu season Sal will advise attendees of the five most important items to stock in their "Nature's Medicine Cabinet."
Michelle Martin, EDS, School Psychologist How can working up a sweat running a relay race, walking in the woods, writing a thank-you letter to grandpa and mindfully eating a strawberry- "build a better brain" for children? Pulling from brain plasticity and positive psychology research, Michelle will explain the importance of exercise/movement, gratitude, nature and meditation for "Brain Health" as well as immunity and the prevention of chronic illness. Attendees will learn about the practice of EFT/Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique) with "Tappy Bear" as a means of helping children release emotions such as anger and sadness.
Janet Levatin, MD, Holisitc Pediatrician In this modern "age of chemicals," Janet will provide valuable information on the dietary and environmental toxicity exposure that our children experience and the impact on their behavior and overall health, and she will explain very "doable" ways to minimize those sources. Janet will also provide an introduction to the non-invasive and effective practice of homeopathy, including how it works and how she has used it extensively in her practice and its effectiveness in treating both physical and emotional/behavioral issues. There will be a light meal available.
