This morning reminded me that we live on an amazing planet and that you don't have to travel to the ends of it to have an amazing experience. Fascinating things abound in our backyards, neighborhoods, and local patches! So get out there and keep your eyes and ears open.

Bird of the Day
Virginia Rail −
Rallus limicola

Virginia Rail İEileen Rutherford

It's not every day that you get to see a Virginia Rail out in the open seemingly without the strong desire to disappear into the reeds. The drawback being it was not close, but we had good looks through the spotting scopes. Sometimes the sora and the Virginia Rail were sharing the same field of view in the scope. The rich chestnut coloration and gray face of a Virginia Rail, combined with the bright orange of the beak are hard to turn away from. Stunning.
