Our shade-seeking desires brought us to Old St. Vrain Road this morning. It was a great choice because all the fruiting bushes and trees are loaded along the road. We also ran into a group of young birders from the American Birding Association. It was great to see young people who are so interested in birds.

Many of the birds we saw this morning were attracted to fruit. We also saw several piles of bear scat showing that the bears are also attracted to the same fruits. There is something irresistible about western tanagers - so colorful. A bit of the tropics that we get to see for a few months of the summer. Go to foothills locations (with fruit trees) and riparian corridors at this time of year to see western tanagers, our Bird of the Day.
