Saturday Bird Walk − Bird Count − June 11, 2016
Sunny and hot. 85°F. 2-5 mph. 17 participants.

To avoid the predicted hot weather, we decided to go up to Lyons and bird watch in the shade

along Old St. Vrain Rd. It was a good decision because the birds were very active and we saw a good variety.

seem to get all of their needed water from the insects they consume. This morning we saw an adult and a recently fledged young bird. Note the difference in bill size in the slide show. The young bird, of course, is the one with the shorter bill. These birds were also quite vocal and it's always a treat to hear their whistled cascading song.
