We tried to stay off the trails used by Bolder Boulder Trainees this morning. It was a lovely

morning and we only had one mishap crossing Bear Creek (sorry Claude). The birds are busy singing, nesting, and holding territory right now.

Olive-Sided Flycatcher - Contopus cooperi
 
Olive-Sided Flycatchers are one of our largest flycatchers and today we saw one eat one of our largest moths, a sphinx moth. (See slide show) That must have been quite satisfying!

Olive-sideds perch upright and have a large head and short tail giving it a tapered profile. Unfortunately, their population has been in steep decline for the past few decades.
